Geometries

About the Exhibition

Three artists employ geometry in their creative explorations: Stephen H. Kawai unfolds the patterns of nature through the lens of science; Jennifer Hamilton connects symbolism, form, and spirituality in her search for meaning; and Robby Kraft folds the night sky along invisible triangulations.

Stephen H. Kawai

Stephen H. Kawai was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. Obsessed with drawing from a very young age, his art training began as a teenager at the now-defunct MMFA School of Art and Design. Stephen is known for his mobiles, as well as his paintings and drawings. He draws on chemical and biochemical concepts for his artistic work, as well as exploring novel means (such as the use of springs) to augment the kinetic aspects of his creations. Stephen holds a degree in biochemistry and a doctorate in chemistry.

Jennifer Hamilton

Jennifer Hamilton earned a B.F.A. in Visual Art at Queen’s University, in 2003 and a M.L.I.S. in Librarianship from McGill University in 2010. In her art practice Hamilton is best known for her ephemeral art in the form of installations, printed publications, posters and stencilled drawings. She plays with words and symbols to create new meanings, asks questions and resurrects dead languages. She has exhibited extensively in Montreal and across Canada in group and solo shows. The artist also publishes WAY magazine, which focuses on spiritualism and world religion.

Robby Kraft

Robby Kraft is a computer engineer and artist creating origami, digital media art, and music. He uses generative art techniques along with pen plotters to create original origami designs that play with geometry algorithms. Robby is also known for his work folding other artists' designs, taking great care to details and exhibiting diverse styles and techniques.
