546.1nm

The first green roof on a city building in Montreal...

One day in the library

I saw the title of an article in a newspaper of a borough

Because I like the color green for a long time

I react to the word "green" when it is caught by my eyes

Most of the time, it is about environmental issues

The newspaper is bilingual, French and English, so I saw the two words as green

I thought my mother language, Japanese, would be the same

What is the green?

This is my new series « 546.1nm»

Something that is captured as green by human eyes in our planet

Green of leaves to purify the air in the planet

Green of vegetables to nourish the life on this planet

And then...

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Born in Japan, Yuka Higashiura lives and works in Montreal since 1999. In this exhibition, she presents a new series titled "546.1 nm", which was created to re-think the color green on the earth. 546.1nm is the wavelength of green of visible light in sunlight, defined by CIE (International Commission of Illumination). The 27 prints made in 2008, 2009 and 2010, are done by the technique of etching and aquatint, printed by the artist.
Yuka has been doing research in the non toxic printmaking, instead of the traditional way that has been carried out over centuries. Since 2009, her prints are created by the health and environment-friendly working methods.
