ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Stalactites
The sculptural quality of light plays an integral role in this artwork. The Stalactite sculptures are both a proper light source as well as being lit by exterior lights. The transparent materials enveloping the lights transform their function from prosaic utility to a source of inner illumination. The ceiling has been lowered to create an atmosphere of intimacy, as well as a feeling of suffocation and restriction of space, similar to that of a cave.
The interplay of the artwork's light and the space of the gallery itself create a site-specific installation which changes the symbolic presence of the sculptures. Each stalactite appears to be sometimes rough like a root slicing through the soil, sometimes smooth like a dripping candle.
Hair
Visually minimalist, this series of photographs questions our visceral reactions to hair, especially that of strangers. Why such disgust at the sight of a hair which is not our own (imagine finding one on our plate), but such indifference when it comes to leaving our own hair behind everywhere? Why keep a new-born's first locks, or those of a dearly departed?

ARTIST STATEMENT
The exploration of the sentiments of the human body are at the heart of my artistic practice, whether through direct or symbolic representation. The body is represented in fragments - extremities, faces, hair - and displayed either as a whole or as isolated pieces. The shared emotional response is the engine of this investigation. My current artistic research focuses on questioning the imagined and the narrative in sculptural form and in photography.
