IN THE GROVE IT IS DARKLING

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
In this series of paired photographs, David Inglesfield and Robin Dennis probe the magical connections and synchronicities of modern life.
David and Robin's photographs are informed by the Romantic ideals that challenged the Industrial Revolution two centuries ago. In a society dominated by technology and globalization, people still yearn to form communities of meaning and identity. More and more, these communities coalesce in the digital realm. Their medium of digital photography — David and Robin first met each other through the hyperlinks and bookmarks of common acquaintances on a photo-sharing website — expresses the inherent friction of this age: that connections of the imagination and of the soul might be found in the diffused and fragmentary society of the internet.
David and Robin have coupled these pieces to replicate and amplify the serendipitous dialogue, influence, and collaboration that have arisen as they have displayed and developed their work online.
"In the grove it is darkling."
Quote from Ivan Alekseyevich Bunin's "Meteor," Grammar of Love, trans. 1934 by John Cournos.
