IN BLOOM

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The flower has been a perennial theme in Art history. Its reexamination throughout the ages has allowed it to possess multiple meanings. In the still life tradition, it came to represent mortality or the fleeting aspect of time. Georgia O'keefe likened it to the delicate folds of the female genitalia with Judy Chicago going as far as to suggest that such forms were to be understood as characters in a female visual language that could equate to the male monolith. Unafraid of it's loaded history, the artists in this show resolved to approach the theme of the flower with renewed vigor and each in a different way that reflected their individual art practice.

An intervention in a public place always interests me. It helps push the boundaries of my artistic ideas and brings them to life. My artistic practice focuses on the concept of using one’s senses, other than vision, to access an art form. I concentrate on the manipulation of place, intervention, and the use of senses for the perceiver to notice and interpret art. My goal in my installation piece is to stop
people in their daily activities through art to get them to notice the subtle beauty and complexity of a simple object or location in which they interact with everyday, all while ignoring it completely.
